Compassionate Care for Sport Horses

At the Sporthorse Renewal Foundation, our mission is to serve as a compassionate middle ground for sporthorses who can no longer succeed in their current roles due to physical injuries, behavioral challenges, or emotional trauma. We provide a sanctuary where these horses receive the kindness, patience, and ethical rehabilitation they deserve.

Through individualized care, we seek to understand each horse’s unique story—working through physical and mental barriers to restore their well-being. Our approach includes retraining for new careers, offering time for healing, or preparing them for a peaceful retirement. Whether a horse returns to performance, transitions into a new job, or becomes a lifelong sanctuary resident, we are committed to helping them rediscover purpose and peace.

We aim to be a trusted resource for owners facing hardship—whether due to financial strain, illness, loss of a loved one, or an inability to safely manage a horse with training or medical needs. We offer a safe, ethical solution where families can feel confident that their horse will never face abuse, neglect, auction, or slaughter.

Each horse in our care is given the time and support they need without pressure or timelines. Once a horse has completed their journey of renewal, they may be placed through onsite or offsite leases or adopted into pre-approved, loving homes. For those who remain with us, they become invaluable partners in education—helping us teach aspiring trainers and riders the principles of humane horsemanship, ethical problem-solving, and slow, thoughtful re-starts.

Importantly, 100% of all proceeds—including those from leases, sales, training, lessons, and donations—are reinvested directly into the care, rehabilitation, and training of our horses, as well as the overall operation and sustainability of our nonprofit. Every dollar supports the mission.

Sporthorse Renewal Foundation Inc. is a nonprofit organization based in Morriston, Florida, established to serve as a sanctuary and rehabilitation center for sporthorses that are no longer able to perform in their current careers due to injury, behavioral challenges, or other circumstances. Our mission is to provide these horses with the time, care, and ethical training they need to heal physically and mentally, and to repurpose them for new careers or retire them with dignity.

We accept donated horses from owners who may be experiencing hardship, dealing with horses that are no longer sellable, or unsure of where to turn. These horses often require rehabilitation, retraining, or a safe retirement due to injury, poor training, neglect, or trauma. Once accepted, each horse undergoes a comprehensive evaluation by our professional staff to determine a personalized care and training plan.

Our primary programs include:

• Rehabilitation & Retraining: Horses receive tailored care plans including veterinary treatment, physical therapy, and ethical retraining rooted in classical dressage principles.
   
• Rehoming: Once a horse is physically and emotionally ready, we match them with approved adopters or lessees. All placements require contracts to ensure long-term welfare.
   
• Permanent Sanctuary: Horses who are not suitable for adoption due to age, injury, or temperament may remain at the Foundation for lifelong care.
   
• Education & Outreach: We provide learning opportunities for aspiring trainers and riders focused on proper horsemanship, ethical rehabilitation, and positive retraining techniques.

Operations are overseen by the President and supported by a board of directors. Daily care and training are performed by a combination of staff, volunteers, and professional horsemen and women. All horse placements are managed by the Foundation to ensure compatibility and lifelong welfare.

We plan to support our mission through:

• Individual and corporate donations
   
• Grants and sponsorships
   
• Fundraising events
   
• Leasing fees and on-site educational clinics
   
• Occasional sales of retrained horses when appropriate
   

All funds, including those from leases, lessons, or sales, will be 100% reinvested into the care and operations of the nonprofit.

Donors who contribute horses or valuable property may be eligible for tax deductions under IRC §170. For gifts over $5,000, we may provide a written appraisal by qualified, certified staff or volunteers, in accordance with IRS guidelines.

Our work prevents horses from being abandoned, sold at auction, or sent to slaughter. We provide a humane and ethical alternative for horse owners and create new opportunities for horses to thrive.
